Mappings by Ira Greenberg — 511 AI artworks

MappingsBy Ira Greenberg · 511 works · released 2023-08-30Mappings is a 511-piece BrainDrops release in which map-like structures surfaced from Ira Greenberg's exploration of generative space and form, rather than from a pre-chosen subject. The collection inverts the observational tradition he trained in as a painter: instead of beginning with a motif, the motif emerges from the process itself. It sits within Greenberg's broader practice of combining his own code-based generative systems with generative AI, an approach he has pursued across several 2023 projects. The edition sold out on release in late August 2023.

Greenberg holds a BFA from Cornell University and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania.

His 2007 book Processing: Creative Coding and Computational Art was the first major language reference for Processing.

He co-founded Emergent Properties (emprops.ai), billed as a Generative+AI art platform; its genesis project was his collection The Oracles.

Mappings sold out on BrainDrops around August 30, 2023, per a contemporaneous newsletter.

His later CyberStructures series (2024), shown with Gazelli Art House, was made with Midjourney 6.
