Xander Steenbrugge is a Belgian machine-learning researcher and digital artist. He studied engineering at Ghent University, where a master's thesis on brain-computer interfaces (classifying EEG signals) led him into machine learning. He later led the applied research team at the Belgian AI company ML6, and he also ran an educational YouTube channel about AI research. His artistic practice began with audio-reactive StyleGAN visuals, collected in his project 'Neural Synesthesia', in which models trained on custom image datasets are driven by features extracted from music. That work led to the web platform wzrd.ai. He calls generative models 'imagination amplifiers' and describes his pieces as co-created with the AI.
