KaliYuga is an AI artist and model-builder who became a key figure in the open-source AI art scene of 2022 by training and freely releasing custom diffusion models. KaliYuga's Pixel Art Diffusion, a custom-trained unconditional diffusion model distributed as a Colab notebook built on a fork of Disco Diffusion, was followed by a higher-fidelity version trained on roughly 4,100 hand-picked pixel art pieces and released on Hugging Face. KaliYuga also published a widely used guide to training unconditional diffusion models with minimal coding, which other AI artists cite as the route to training their own models.
